Meet the Artist

Jane Gowen is a compelling story-teller with a rich history in classical, musical theatre, jazz, and choral styles. She is fueled by coffee, hydration, 8+ hours of sleep, and a desire to make a difference.

Whether directing, teaching, or performing, Jane combines functional knowledge of the voice, compassionate care for the singer’s mind and body, and a belief in the power of choice and creative play. She collaborates with singers to maximize learning, minimize injury, and develop an empowered toolbox for artistic expression. Her approach is grounded in professional performing experience, a M.M. in Voice Performance, B.S. in Music Education, and advanced studies from the voice pedagogy institutes of Shenandoah Conservatory and Westminster Choir College. Jane is committed to continuing education and refinement of her performing artistry. She currently runs a thriving voice studio of singers aged 11 - 24 both in-person (White Bear Lake, MN) and virtual (nationwide).

Jane has studied voice with GRAMMY®-nominated soprano Fotina Naumenko, NYC-based performer Beth Stafford Laird, Melissa McCann, and Youna Hartgraves. Her vocal coaches have included Wei-Han Wu and Maja Tremiszewska, and she has studied acting under director and professor Dan Bielinski. As a performer, Jane is a state- and regional-level winner and nationally-qualifying singer in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Student Auditions in both the classical and musical theatre categories. She is also a recipient of the Rislov Foundation Classical Music Education Grant. Jane also performs professionally as a French Horn player, having studied the instrument for ten years with her father and professor, Dennis Gowen, and is an intermediate-level accompanist.

Recent credits include the Children’s Performing Arts production of Frozen Jr. (MD), Gilbert & Sullivan Very Light Opera Company’s production of Iolanthe (Ensemble), Independent School of Winchester’s production of Frozen Jr. (MD), the Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra’s production of Cosi fan Tutte (Despina), and the University of Mary’s productions of Die Fledermaus (Adele), and The Pirates of Penzance (Edith). In contemporary music, Jane rocked out for four years in the regionally-touring Vocal Jazz Ensemble of University of Mary. Jane is also a recurring performer in North Dakota’s only professional vocal ensemble: Dakota Pro Musica.
